Local Council Clerk Week: 8 – 12 June 2026 - Empowering Change

From our colleagues at The Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC)

Next week (WC 8th-12th June) marks Local Council Clerk Week 2026, where we are shining a spotlight on the professionals who make local democracy work. The theme for this week is ‘Empowering Change: The people who make local democracy work - every day, everywhere.’

In England and Wales, local councils remain the closest, most immediate form of democratic representation - and clerks are the steady hand that helps them deliver. They are the trained professionals who enable local councils to do their work: advising councillors, guiding decision-making, ensuring transparency, and supporting councils to meet their legal duties while staying focused on the needs of local people.

We would appreciate it if you could share and promote Local Council Clerk Week, and the important work that clerks, and their councils, do to deliver democracy in their local communities. As part of this, we’ve created a video aimed at secondary students, but appealing to a wider audience to highlight this. You can watch and share the video here - https://youtu.be/uvA3u44JCQw.

Thanks for your time, and we hope this is of interest.
