Hi all - does any NACO Colleagues, through their Civic/Mayoral roles provide any support or financial support to the High Sheriff for the delivery of their Annual Legal Service please? in Chester the Lord Mayor contributes financially and with officer support for the organisation and delivery on the day and in recent times, the provision of refreshments. To help understand who’s responsibility it is to delivery and organise Legal Service and provide the refreshments post cathedral service, it would be good to know what happens in your local areas please? Many thanks
For the High Sheriff of Devon we provide all the admin support ie send out the invites, collate replies, do the seating plan (who doesnt love a complicated seating plan lol), sending out order of proceedings and processions; liaise with the trumpeters; reserve signs etc. We also help on the day by signing guests in; directing them to changing rooms; processing them in and out; seating them in the Cathedral etc.
We used to contribute financially by giving the High Sheriff £1000 but we stopped doing that a few years ago - so all costs fall onto the High Sheriff. So the High Sheriff pays for the Cathedral (and liaises with them re the service); the venue where the Processing Guests form up at and where the reception is held afterwards; the refreshments pre and post service; and the road closure if one is needed.
Initially the courts you used to assist as well financially and with admin support, but they scaled back massively and only help with forwarding the invites onto the Judges and JPs.
