Selling a civic number plate

has anyone had any experience in selling a civic number plate? if so, please could you advise where you sold it and how long it took?

Thank you in advance!

@Tracy can you assist ?

Hi - I will check but it has been about 30 years since we last sold a number plate. If your car is managed / look after by your local authority Fleet Manager, it would be worth speaking to them. Otherwise, there are several websites where you can have the plate valued and then sell it. Also remember, whilst it has been used as a “civic”number plate - it could be worthwhile to another user in a very different capacity.

Many civic number plates are valuable and websites can provide indicative quotes. Remember they can only be sold once though, so ensure the money is ring fenced for worthwhile projects.

You could also consider looking for an alternative ‘cherished plate’ that could work for your council and cost less than the one for sale. As an example, when we were in the depths of a financial crisis at Derby, selling CCH 1 was considered and I looked at alternatives including DER 8Y. In the end it did not happen.
